Asus is preparing an updated ROG Flow Z13 gaming tablet with 12- and 16-core AMD Ryzen Max processors

Asus is preparing to release an updated version of the ROG Flow Z13 gaming tablet. The new product will receive AMD Ryzen AI processors from the Strix Halo family, which have not yet been presented. The device has already been listed at some retailers.

Sellers indicate that the ROG Flow Z13, codenamed GZ302EA, will be offered with 12- and 16-core AMD Strix Halo processors. Chip models are not indicated, but from earlier leaks we can conclude that we are talking about Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and Ryzen AI Max 390, respectively.

It is known that ROG Flow Z13 will offer a 13.4-inch IPS display with an aspect ratio of 16:10, 500 cd/m2 brightness and a refresh rate of 180 Hz. The current model is equipped with a screen with a refresh rate of 165 Hz. The new product will also offer 32 GB of faster LPDDR5X memory instead of LPDDR5. Strix Halo processors are rumored to support RAM speeds of up to 8000 MT/s. The specs for the Asus device also list a 1TB SSD.

AMD Strix Halo processors are expected to be launched at the CES 2025 electronics show early next month. The Asus ROG Flow Z13 gaming tablet belongs to the premium segment of devices. At the start of sales, the current model was offered for $2000. Currently, the version with a discrete GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card is sold for $1,700.

As for the future AMD Strix Halo processors, a day earlier ROG Flow Z13 with a 16-core Ryzen AI Max+ 395 chip was noted in the Geekbench synthetic test database. The new processor scored 2894 points in the single-threaded test and 20,708 points in the multi-threaded test. This is higher than the results of the current flagship Ryzen 9 7945HX, which scored 2736 and 15,896 points in the same tests, respectively, and also higher than the results of the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D (2763/16,393 points) with additional 3D V-Cache memory. Nothing is known yet about the capabilities of the Ryzen AI Max 390 model.
