OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT users can now voice chat with a virtual version of Santa Claus – available on mobile, desktop and web apps. The “Advanced Voice Mode” also includes the ability to broadcast video and computer screens.

The voice and virtual personality of Santa Claus has appeared as a pre-installed option in the ChatGPT voice mode. To access them, you need to click on the snowflake icon next to the request panel or in voice settings. The function works in applications for iOS and Android, in clients for Windows and macOS, as well as on the ChatGPT website – you can use it until the beginning of January. Dialogues with the main Christmas character work as temporary chats – their history is not saved and is not transmitted to the model’s long-term memory.
As a gift, OpenAI announced its readiness to reset the restrictions for voice mode once – if the user has exhausted the time quota, he will still be able to communicate with the virtual Santa Claus. Interestingly, Santa mode cannot be used by children: ChatGPT itself has an age restriction – it is intended for users over 13 years old. “You must be at least 13 years of age or the minimum age in your country to consent to use the Services. If you are under 18 years of age, you must have parental or legal guardian permission to use the Services,” the ChatGPT user agreement states.
In the expanded voice mode, support for broadcasting video and screen images for artificial intelligence also appeared – the company spoke about this function at the presentation of the GPT-4o model in May. It will help users show items they are interested in directly to the AI, rather than describing them or uploading photos. Paid Plus and Pro users in most countries can chat with ChatGPT via live video via the mobile app; In the EU this function will appear a little later. Corporate users and users from educational organizations will be able to take advantage of it in January.
