Dell is preparing powerful work laptops with Arrow Lake-HX, CAMM2 memory and “RTX 5000-level” graphics

Dell is preparing to release high-performance laptops Pro Max 16 and Pro Max 18 Plus. Both new products belong to the class of mobile workstations. According to the leak, both models will receive new Intel Arrow Lake-HX processors and Nvidia “RTX 5000-level” graphics cards.

Intel Arrow Lake-HX processors will likely be announced at CES 2025 early next month. As for Nvidia video cards, at the same CES 2025 only GeForce RTX 50 series desktop accelerators are expected to be announced. Typically, new-generation mobile solutions appear much later, so the likelihood of an early release of GeForce RTX 5000 gaming video cards for laptops is extremely low.

Probably, the “RTX 5000 level” video cards announced for the Dell Pro Max 16 Plus and Dell Pro Max 18 Plus mean the professional RTX 5000 generation Ada Lovelace accelerators, which Nvidia released last year.

The total TDP distributed between the CPU and GPU for the Dell Pro Max 16 model will be 170 W, and for the older Dell Pro Max 18 Plus – 200 W. According to available information, the new products will offer up to 256 GB of RAM in the new compact CAMM2 format, up to four M.2 2280 slots for NVMe drives with support for up to 16 TB of permanent memory, as well as an optional choice of 16- or 18-inch Tandem OLED screens with an aspect ratio of 16:10.

The laptop cooling system will include three fans – Dell notes that this is the world’s first mobile workstation with such a number of fans. The body of the new products will be made of magnesium alloy. In addition, the laptops will boast two Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) ports, removable batteries, support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

The announcement of the laptops is expected on January 7, at CES 2025, and they should go on sale by the middle of next year.
