Akasa has released an external enclosure AK-ENU3M2-08 for NVMe drives of the M.2 2230 format. The new product differs from other similar solutions by the presence of a supercapacitor, which, according to the manufacturer, prevents data loss in the event of an unexpected loss of power to the SSD.

The AK-ENU3M2-08 is compatible with many iPhone smartphones and supports direct video recording to disc in ProRes 4K resolution. However, its key feature is the ability to keep the SSD operating for 5-6 minutes after turning off the constant power source, provided the supercapacitor is fully charged. This time is enough to complete the transfer of data from the clipboard to the flash memory of the drive.
The reasons for a sudden loss of power in an SSD can be different. Most often this occurs due to a power outage or neglect of the “Safely Remove Hardware” function.
In addition, the AK-ENU3M2-08 supports up to 100W power pass-through via USB. The device is equipped with a USB 3.2 Type-C connector, providing data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps, which is lower than some competitors. However, this speed can be compensated by increased data transmission security.
The manufacturer has not yet disclosed the cost of AK-ENU3M2-08.
