It’s been a busy year for Microsoft’s Surface division. In March, the company introduced the Surface Pro 10 tablet and Surface Laptop 6, aimed at enterprise customers, the first devices with Intel Core Ultra chips. A few months later, the Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 appeared – the first Copilot Plus PC devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Arm chips. Microsoft will continue to release Surface family devices next year.
This year, the Surface division’s focus has been on releasing its first AI-powered computers. This trend will likely continue next year, with Microsoft consolidating much of the Surface portfolio under the Copilot Plus PC umbrella. According to the source, in 2025 the company plans to release new versions of Surface Pro, Surface Laptop, Surface Laptop Studio. It is also possible that a compact 11-inch laptop will join the family of devices.
The first to hit the market will be new versions of Surface Pro and Surface Laptop based on Intel Lunar Lake processors. These devices are expected to be Microsoft’s first Copilot Plus PCs with Intel chips. Information about the new Surface laptop with a Lunar Lake chip has already appeared in the media, and it is known that the design of the device will be identical to the appearance of the already released Surface Laptop 7 based on the Snapdragon X chip. Most likely, developers will equip the screens of new laptops with Lunar Lake chips with an anti-reflective coating, which has already appeared in the Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 models. According to rumors, Microsoft will release different versions of the Surface Laptop: with built-in a memory card reader, as well as an option with support for 5G networks.
Microsoft is also expected to introduce a new high-performance Laptop Studio model, which will join the list of Copilot Plus PCs. Perhaps this device will be released in versions with Intel and AMD chips. In order for the new product to be classified as a Copilot Plus PC device, it needs a processor with an NPU unit that will provide the necessary performance for performing artificial intelligence tasks. You shouldn’t expect any significant changes in the design of the device, but it is possible that a model with a 16-inch screen will appear on the market.
According to the source, Microsoft is working on creating a compact 11-inch laptop that will use premium materials and components. Most likely, it will be powered by the Snapdragon Elite Plus chip. As for other potential new products, Microsoft may release a Surface Dock next year, but how it will differ from the existing Surface Dock with USB Type-C ports is still unknown.
The timing of the launch of new products also remains a mystery. Microsoft may release the new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop in the first quarter of 2025, but other devices will arrive later. As always, surprises are possible, implying an unexpected presentation of hardware new products from Microsoft.
