Samsung has released a beta version of One UI 7.0 – a new interface, even more AI and a lot of fresh features

After months of anticipation, Samsung has released a beta version of its One UI 7.0 software. This update, based on Android 15, is now available for the Galaxy S24 series (except FE) in Germany, South Korea and the US. It will be available in India, Poland and the UK in a few days. The update brings a completely new UI design, improved personalization, eye-catching animations, and a host of new features.

One UI 7.0 beta is now available for Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra. The update comes with firmware version S92xBXXU4ZXKZ, which is over 4.7 GB in size. The update also includes the December 2024 security patch.

Samsung is introducing a new Galaxy AI feature called Writing Assist Tools. It can be called up when selecting text and used to check spelling, grammar and style. It also offers text summarization and automatic note formatting.

Call Transcripts is another AI feature debuting in One UI 7.0. It transcribes recorded calls and supports 20 languages.

One UI 7.0 brings a major UI overhaul, including a new layout for the Quick Access panel, a more expressive multitasking interface, and a simpler notification screen.

Notifications and the Quick Access Toolbar are now two separate screens. Notifications can be accessed by swiping down anywhere on the Home screen or by swiping down from the top of the screen. Each notification is now larger and round in shape.

To open the Quick Access Toolbar, swipe down from the top right corner of the screen. The panel houses all the switches and quick setup controls. Also on the panel there is now a volume control. The location of each switch or control can be changed.

To switch between notifications and the Quick Access Toolbar, simply swipe right or left on the screen.

The user interface has a new element called Now Bar. It shows all currently running tasks and actions such as active voice call, translator mode, music playback, Samsung Health workout tracking, SOS, and timer. The Now Bar is called from the status bar and appears at the top of the screen, and on the lock screen it is located at the bottom. Samsung promises to add more apps and services to the Now Bar in the future.

One UI 7.0 introduces many widgets for standard applications. Moreover, the owner can customize the appearance and behavior of these widgets and even label them. The app drawer can be switched to vertical scrolling, something people have been asking for for years. The Finder is at the bottom of the screen, in keeping with One UI’s idea of improved accessibility.

Now almost all controls in the camera app are located at the bottom of the screen. Pro Photo and Pro Video modes have a simplified control panel at the bottom so that the user can concentrate on the shooting process itself.

Pro Video mode gets detailed zoom controls. Level indicators and grid options have also been improved.

One UI 7.0 gives the owner more control over the privacy and security of the device. The new Knox Matrix Dashboard provides status and security insights for all Samsung devices, including supported home appliances, smartphones, tablets and TVs.

One UI 7.0 has improved protection and data recovery from a lost device. The Maximum Restrictions option in Auto Blocker now disables access to 2G networks and prevents unintentional automatic connections to unsecured Wi-Fi networks.

It is now possible to block the USB connection on a locked phone, which does not interfere with charging the device. When you try to download an application or game from an unverified source, your phone sends a warning about possible risks.

One UI 7.0 improves anti-theft features with identity verification. If the device is in an unfamiliar location, any changes to security settings will require biometric authentication. It also includes a one-hour delay for any changes to be applied.

The stable version of One UI 7.0 will be available in the first quarter of 2025 for the Galaxy S24 series. The update will then roll out to other Galaxy devices.
