OpenAI has promised to present new AI innovations for 12 days in a row – from the spirit of Christmas to reasoning AI

OpenAI will celebrate the upcoming holidays with a massive lineup of AI announcements. The company’s CEO Sam Altman spoke today at the DealBook conference about OpenAI’s plans to launch or demonstrate something new in the field of AI over the next 12 days. He didn’t give details, but experts are expecting the release of the long-awaited text-to-video tool Sora and a new model with reasoning capabilities.

On December 5, OpenAI plans to launch an event it calls Shipmas (consonant with Christmas) – a presentation of new features, products and demos that will last 12 days. Several OpenAI employees have already started a promotional campaign for upcoming releases on social networks.

«What’s on your Christmas list?,” wrote one techie. “Back just in time to put up the Shipmas tree,” another employee chimed in. Sora chief Bill Peebles responded to reports of OpenAI’s “incredible comeback” with one word: “Correct.” A little later, the company’s senior vice president added to the mystery, summarizing briefly: “If you know, then you know” (IYKYK).

One of the new products will probably be the Sora AI model for generating videos from text descriptions. Previously, a group of video content creators attracted by OpenAI to participate in the development of the AI video generator Sora opened access to it for everyone. The artists explained their action as a protest against the “washing of art.” They say OpenAI pressures Sora’s early testers, including Red Team members and creative partners, to create a positive story around Sora and does not compensate them fairly for their work.

One of OpenAI’s 12 announcements could introduce a new Santa-inspired voice for ChatGPT, bringing the Christmas spirit to life in AI, so to speak. Some ChatGPT users have noticed code that replaces the voice mode button with a snowflake.

Google also recently launched its AI video generation tool. The Veo is currently being offered for limited testing through the Vertex AI platform.
