8BitDo has introduced a new version of its retro mechanical keyboard, inspired by the original Xbox game console from Microsoft. The 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard – Xbox Edition is housed in a translucent green case, but unlike the previous version, it is equipped with RGB backlighting.

The new Xbox Edition mechanical keyboard is available for pre-order on Amazon for $119.99. Its deliveries will begin on January 16, 2025. The company also announced the 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse gaming mouse in the same design. The device is also listed on Amazon, but is not yet available for pre-order.
The 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard – Xbox Edition uses a shortened format and is equipped with 87 keys, including a top row of function buttons, a Windows key and an additional button in the shape of the Xbox logo that is responsible for launching the Windows Game Bar application.
The keys of the device based on the Kailh Jellyfish X switches are equipped with translucent double-layer caps made of ABS plastic. The keyboard is compatible with the proprietary 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2 application, with which you can customize key functions and record macros.
The keyboard comes with two large external Super Buttons that can also be custom programmed or used for macros.
8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard – Xbox Edition offers eight RGB lighting modes, including animated effects and individual backlighting for each key. According to the manufacturer, the 2000 mAh battery built into the keyboard provides up to 200 hours of device operation between charges. But with bright backlighting, autonomy will be clearly lower. For wireless connection, you can use Bluetooth or a 2.4 GHz radio transmitter, and you can also connect the keyboard with a cable via the USB-C port.
The 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse – Xbox Edition gaming mouse is made in the same style as the keyboard described above. It is also housed in a translucent green case. The new product is equipped with four programmable buttons (two on each side), made in the colors of the control buttons of the original Xbox controllers. The device is based on a PAW 3395 optical sensor with six adjustable sensitivity levels from 50 to 26,000 DPI. The mouse polling frequency can also be adjusted – from 125 to 8000 Hz. The main buttons are equipped with Kailh Sword GM X microswitches with a resource of up to 100 million clicks.
The mouse received a 450 mAh battery, a full charge of which will last up to 100 hours of operation when connecting the “rodent” via Bluetooth. However, when connected via a 2.4 GHz radio with lower latency, the battery charge will last from 26 to 105 hours, depending on the selected sensor polling rate. In addition to the new product, the company offers a charging dock. According to 8BitDo, the device also functions as a signal booster to ensure a more reliable and uninterrupted connection.
