Fatality: NetherRealm canceled Kombat Pack 3 and the second add-on for Mortal Kombat 1 after the failure of Khaos Reigns

The Khaos Reigns story addition to the fighting game Mortal Kombat 1, released in September, not only disappointed players, but also seemed to jeopardize the fate of future content for the project.

According to FateUnknown from the Reddit forum, known for Mortal Kombat leaks, Khaos Reigns failed in sales. The result of the addon allegedly turned out to be so bad that it put an end to further content support for the game.

«Kombat Pack 3 and a second story expansion were planned, but both were recently cancelled. No more new characters after Kombat Pack 2,” FateUnknown said.

Low sales of Khaos Reigns were the main, but not the only reason for the cancellation of future DLC

The insider admitted that after Kombat Pack 2, the developers from NetherRealm Studios may still release one or two cameo fighters, since they have already spent some time and effort on them.

FateUnknown doesn’t know what the second plot expansion would be about, but he revealed the contents of the failed Kombat Pack 3: five fighters from past Mortal Kombat (Jade, Cassie, Kung Jin, Sonya, Kano) and one guest.

Conan the Barbarian and Terminator T-1000 from Kombat Pack 2 have no release dates yet

Let’s remember that fans criticized Khaos Reigns (“mostly negative” reviews on Steam) for its high cost ($50) with a relatively small amount of content, including a short-lived story campaign.

Khaos Reigns was released on September 24 on PC (Steam, EGS), PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch. The add-on includes the Kombat Pack 2, which cannot be purchased separately (only individual fighters).
