Huawei has introduced the foldable smartphone Mate X6 in China. Compared to its predecessor, the device features slightly larger screens, a thinner and lighter body, and an improved set of cameras.
Huawei Mate X6 is available with glass back covers or eco-leather coating. The choice of colors is familiar: gray, white, red, blue and black. The company says the Mate X6 uses a new “distributed basalt architecture” to improve the device’s durability. It combines an innovative carbon fiber support layer for the inner shield, a new hinge, a durable aluminum frame and highly thermally conductive graphene. Due to this, the overall rigidity and strength of the structure of the device is increased.
In the special Collector’s Edition, the smartphone is equipped with support for triple satellite communication for the first time for a device in the mass segment. The latter provides two-way transmission of satellite messages, two-way telephone communication and Internet access via a low-orbit satellite. However, satellite Internet technology is still in the testing stage. Public trials are planned for the second half of 2025.
The main set of cameras of the Huawei Mate X6 consists of a 50-megapixel RYYB-type sensor with optical stabilization and variable aperture (f/1.4-f/4.0), a 40-megapixel module for ultra-wide-angle shooting (f/2.2 optics) and a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (f/3.4 optics), with support for 4x optical and 100x digital zoom and optical stabilization. There is also a multispectral 1.5-megapixel camera with support for macro photography at a distance of 5 cm. The internal and external screens of the device are equipped with 8-megapixel cameras with the ability to shoot video in 4K.
The price of Huawei Mate X6 in the 12/256 GB memory configuration is 12,999 yuan (about $1,795), the version with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage is priced at 13,999 yuan ($1,933). The Huawei Mate X6 Collector’s Edition version with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage is priced at 14,999 yuan ($2,071), and the version with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage is priced at 15,999 yuan ($2,209). The smartphone is already available for pre-order in China. Open sales of the device in the Middle Kingdom will begin on December 6.
