Technicians from the electronics repair company iFixit have published a disassembly video of the updated Apple MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro processor. The manufacturer did not make any external changes to the laptop, but iFixit hoped to improve the maintainability of the computer. As it turned out, it was in vain.

When disassembled, the MacBook Pro on the M4 Pro chip turned out to be almost identical to its predecessor, the MacBook Pro with M3, that is, Apple retained almost the same internal design. The updated laptop received a larger radiator that dissipates more heat, but the other design and even the battery remained the same.

Removing the battery again requires removing the touchpad, as its adhesive tabs are located underneath the components. The task of getting to the motherboard turned out to be “incredibly difficult and tedious” – this is hampered by many screws and cables. Most ports are easy to replace, but some, such as MagSafe and memory card slots, require soldering skills. As a result, the maintainability of the Apple MacBook Pro on the M4 Pro chip has not changed – repairs and replacement of parts are carried out similarly to the previous generation computer.
