OpenAI is trying to enter the market of Internet browsers and search engines

The relatively young company OpenAI may try to challenge Google in the market segment where the latter dominates, even according to US antitrust authorities – we are talking about Internet browsers and search engines. At least, such rumors are discussed by The Information, whose publication is cited by Reuters.

According to the source, OpenAI is trying to create an Internet browser that could be integrated with ChatGPT, and is also in negotiations with developers of such applications for possible cooperation in this area. Possible OpenAI partners in this area include Conde Nast, Redfin, Eventbrite and Priceline. These developers even have prototypes of corresponding software solutions.

As it became known this week, US authorities are seriously persuading Google to separate the Chrome browser from its main business. In this sense, OpenAI’s proposed efforts to enter the search engine and Internet browser market could help increase competition in this area. Google introduced its Gemini chatbot last year to compete with OpenAI’s rapidly gaining popularity ChatGPT. Now we can assume that the latter, from the point of view of competitive development, is moving in the opposite direction.

Separately, it is reported that OpenAI has begun negotiations with Samsung regarding the integration of its AI functions on devices of this South Korean brand. Until now, Samsung has relied primarily on cooperation with Google in this area. Trying to catch up with competitors in the field of AI, Apple also agreed with OpenAI to borrow technology. One way or another, The Information notes that OpenAI is now very far from launching its own Internet browser, and we have to talk about this prospect mainly theoretically.
