Toshiba has released a desktop computer with a built-in dot matrix printer

Retrofuturism has returned to office equipment thanks to a new product from Toshiba called Jimucon SJ-9500. The device is an all-in-one personal computer that combines vintage components, such as a dot-matrix printer, with modern hardware inside a single case.

Toshiba has been making business-oriented fancy all-in-one computers under the Jimucon brand since 1982. The presented new product is the successor to the Jimucon SJ-9100 and has every chance of becoming the most extraordinary model of the family.

The device weighs 23 kg and is essentially a massive dot matrix printer running Windows 10 IoT Enterprise. The printer is capable of printing up to 240 characters per second, and the inevitable sound effects for such a device during operation will be reminiscent of the offices of past decades. It also supports wide-format paper up to about 12 inches.

The design features a 15-inch touch panel with a resolution of 1024 × 768 pixels, which is placed directly on the printer. The configuration is complemented by 8 GB of RAM and two solid-state drives with a capacity of 240 GB. One of the drives is designed for running active applications, and the second is for storing data. There is also a slot for storing the keyboard when it is not in use.

In addition to this, Jimucon SJ-9500 is equipped with its own power supply, which is enough for 3 minutes of operation. This can be useful in the event of an unexpected power outage; backup power will allow you to save documents and complete work.

The developer assures that the new product can be adapted for use in different areas of business. The design provides six USB ports, serial ports, DisplayPort, and a Gigabit Ethernet connector. All this can be useful for connecting peripheral devices such as barcode scanners and additional monitors. Despite the impressive weight of 23 kg, the device is quite compact (dimensions 538 × 658 × 418 mm). The retail price of the Jimucon SJ-9500 has not yet been announced, as has the likelihood of the new product appearing outside the Japanese market.
