Roblox Corporation, in response to increased concern from parents, has announced new safety measures designed to protect young users of the popular gaming platform Roblox.
The changes will make managing your child’s account settings easier and more intuitive, and update built-in restrictions to provide additional protection beyond parental controls.
Adults will have access to parental control settings remotely (not from the child’s device), the ability to track their child’s screen time (and also limit it) and view their list of friends.
Persons under 13 years of age will not be able to send private messages to other Roblox users outside of a game session or event. The same applies to group notifications, but this restriction can be removed using parental controls.
According to Roblox Corporation, many of these measures will take effect today, November 18, while others will begin to work in the coming months. All changes will be fully launched by the beginning of 2025.
Roblox is also moving away from age restrictions on games/events. They will be replaced by content labels: “Minimal” and “Moderate” for users under 9 years old, “Average” – with parental permission.
The management of Roblox Corporation was forced to think about the safety of young Roblox users by the increasing number of cases of malicious acts against minors (from 3,000 in 2022 to 13,000 in 2023).
