The Google Workspace platform now features Gemini, an AI-powered image generator right in the Google Docs app, allowing you to quickly create illustrations for text. Essentially, this is a clipart generator similar to a similar function in the Microsoft office suite.
The Google Docs Image Generator is available for paid Workspace accounts, including Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium and Google One AI Premium. Those who already have the new function working can open it through the “Insert” menu, in which you need to sequentially select the “Image” and “Help me create an image” items. A sidebar appears where you can enter a description of the desired illustration; it also has a drop-down list of artistic styles – for example, “Photography” or “Sketch”.
The image will be square or elongated in the horizontal or vertical direction – you can choose what best fits into the document layout. You can also create a cover image that spans the entire page. The new feature is powered by Google’s latest Imagen 3 generator, which the company says provides “better detail, richer lighting, and fewer unnecessary artifacts.” Some accounts will have a new feature in the next 15 days; for others, it will begin rolling out on December 16th.
