As expected, at the Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct, publisher and developer Blizzard Entertainment confirmed plans for a major 2.0 update for its failed strategy game Warcraft 3: Reforged.
Let us remember that upon release in January 2020, Warcraft 3: Reforged was criticized for bugs, deteriorating graphics and the lack of functions from the original game. The re-release of Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos and the add-on The Frozen Throne earned only 59% on Metacritic.
«When something is broken, you fix it. When something goes wrong, you fix it. And if something isn’t good enough, you improve it,” said Brad Chan, senior manager of the Warcraft RTS team, at the announcement of update 2.0.
In version 2.0, the environment and lighting were redesigned, the interface was updated, the resolution of classic Warcraft 3 graphic elements (locations, heroes, units, etc.) was increased and allowed to switch between them and Reforged materials.
In addition, the team has implemented many gameplay improvements such as customizing hotkeys and reworking the rating tables (ladder), as well as, according to Chan, “much, much more.”
Update 2.0 for Warcraft 3: Reforged has already been released, and following the release of the patch, the game itself has become available for purchase in the new Warcraft Remastered Battle Chest bundle worth $40 on Battle.net.
In addition to the reimagined Warcraft 3: Reforged, the bundle includes the already released Warcraft: Remastered and Warcraft 2: Remastered (also announced at the Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct) along with the original versions of both games.
