Social network Bluesky has grown to more than 14.5 million users amid the US elections and changes in X

Decentralized social network Bluesky, an analogue of platform X (formerly Twitter), has added more than 700 thousand new accounts over the past week, and now its audience is over 14.5 million users, reported Bluesky chief operating officer Rose Wang. ). According to Wang, the majority of new users live in the United States.

Bluesky is currently the second most popular free social networking app in the US App Store, behind Meta✴’s Threads, noted Rose Wang. Threads recently surpassed 275 million monthly users, so it’s too early to talk about any competition.

However, posts by Threads users include complaints about the social network’s methods of attracting new members, moderation problems and, most recently, misinformation, reports digital journalist Taylor Lorenz. And it seems that not everyone likes the algorithmic “For You” feed, which is impossible to get rid of forever.

Bluesky has grown especially strongly in recent weeks – before that, on October 24, the independent platform announced that it had 13 million users. Following X’s recent announcement that it would allow blocked users to still see posts from those who blocked them, Bluesky added 500,000 new users in one day.

Another reason for the influx of new Bluesky users could be the results of the US presidential election, as they could decide to switch to a platform that is not owned by Elon Musk, a supporter of Donald Trump.

It should also be noted that Bluesky is constantly improving, and has recently added features such as pinned posts, video sharing support, and the ability to send private messages, which also attracts new users.
