Jim Keller will help LG develop “Caring Intelligence”

LG and Tenstorrent will strengthen their collaboration to develop chiplets and systems on a chip (SoC) to create AI chips that will be integrated into LG products, including AI-controlled home appliances and smart home solutions. The collaboration between the two companies also covers promising areas such as future mobile technologies and commercial solutions, which is fully in line with LG’s concept of “Caring Intelligence”, aimed at creating technologies that take into account the needs of users.

Tenstorrent is known for its cutting-edge High Performance Computing (HPC) solutions and developments based on RISC-V IP (Ascalon) and AI IP (Tensix). These architectures provide the ability to scale chips from milliwatts to megawatts, achieving the optimal balance between performance and energy efficiency. Scalability makes Tenstorrent products in demand both for low-power portable devices and for large data centers.

Key executives from both companies attended a recent meeting between LG CEO William Cho and Tenstorrent CEO Jim Keller at LG’s headquarters in Seoul. Participants included LG CTO Kim Byoung-hoon and SoC Center Manager Kim Jin-gyeong, as well as Tenstorrent Commercial Operations Director David Bennett and VP Automotive Thaddeus Fortenberry. At the meeting, strategic directions for long-term partnership and methods for optimizing the use of intellectual and technological resources of companies were discussed.

The companies are focusing on opportunities to share technologies to create synergies in areas such as AI for home appliances, smart home solutions, mobile applications and video processors for data centers. LG and Tenstorrent executives emphasized the importance of developing next-generation semiconductors, such as RISC-V and chiplets, that will allow companies to confidently grow in the rapidly growing AI market.

As part of the partnership, the companies are considering the possibility of creating a long-term internship program focused on the development of young professionals. This will attract top talent and support innovation, ensuring a constant flow of new ideas into the booming semiconductor industry. LG is actively developing competencies in the field of AI software and algorithms, which allows the company to create products and platforms using generative technologies that operate directly on devices. As part of this strategy, chips are being created that integrate AI solutions into devices, increasing data processing speed and increasing their security.

To successfully implement this strategy, LG has established the SoC Research and Development Center, which develops and optimizes high-performance systems based on chiplet technology, which allows the integration of multiple chips. This architecture is becoming increasingly popular amid growing demand for energy-efficient AI semiconductors, and LG is focusing on improving the performance and energy efficiency of its products. The chips developed by LG for its key products were created under the guidance of the SoC Center. Among them, the proprietary DQ-C AI chip for household appliances and the Alpha 11 AI processor for OLED TVs stand out. These cutting-edge developments strengthen LG’s leadership in the global AI device and premium TV market.
