The long-time dream of players to see high-profile Sony exclusives on PC is finally coming true, but the latest releases have been overshadowed by the requirement to link a PSN account. The situation was commented on by the company’s management.

Let us remind you that an attempt to impose a PlayStation account on the Steam version of Helldivers 2 for the game resulted in a storm of indignation and the cancellation of the decision, but did not prevent Sony from integrating the link into other projects, including single-player ones.

Sony Group President, COO and CFO Hiroki Totoki admitted that by “offering PlayStation accounts,” the company “occasionally provokes pushback” from users.

Requiring a PSN link automatically makes the game unavailable in more than 170 countries where this account cannot be created

«However, for gaming services, in order to maintain order and provide a safe environment, we need to create a favorable environment for this and the free enjoyment of the game,” Totoki said during Sony’s new financial report.

Totoki added that the company has yet to find the best way to convince PC users to accept these “not so much rules, but some restrictions” as they are “extremely important.”

Journalists and ordinary users from the ResetEra forum criticized the statements of the Sony president. According to many, with words about protecting players, the company is simply covering up its desire to expand the PSN audience by any means.

The requirement for a PSN account in service games is understandable, but in single-player projects there is no one to protect – users do not interact with each other. So in the foreseeable future, Sony is likely to expect more pushback from gamers.
