The American company Take-Two Interactive in a new financial report announced the sale of its publishing label Private Division to an unknown buyer and finally confirmed the closure of two of its studios.
Let us remind you that Private Division was established in December 2017 and specializes in small and AA games. For almost seven years, The Outer Worlds, OlliOlli World, Rollerdrome, Kerbal Space Program 2 (KSP 2) and others came out from under the publisher’s wing.
As part of its decision to focus on big games and mobile entertainment, Take-Two has sold its Private Division, it has been revealed. The buyer (whose identity will be revealed “soon”) has acquired the rights to “almost all” of the division’s games.
The list includes the heartwarming hobbit game Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game (due March 25, 2025) and the mysterious samurai action thriller codenamed Project Bloom from Pokemon game developers Game Freak.
Of all the Private Division projects, Take-Two did not want to part with only No Rest for the Wicked – the action role-playing game from Austrian Moon Studios (Ori duology), which was released in early access in the spring, will remain in Take-Two’s portfolio.
In a conversation with GamesIndustry.biz, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also confirmed that the company closed Roll7 (OlliOlli, Rollerdrome) and Intercept Games (KSP 2) before the sale of the Private Division, although it denied this in May.
«Private Division has done a great job supporting indie developers. Almost all of her projects performed well. At the same time, the scale of these projects, to be honest, was modest, and we are playing big,” Zelnik added.
