MSI boasted of overclocking the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor to 7.2 GHz. Asus previously announced overclocking the chip to 6.9 GHz. At the same time, the processor worked stably not only in synthetic tests, but also in games.
Of course, we are talking about extreme overclocking. In both cases, the companies used liquid nitrogen to cool the processors. For the vast majority of users, such dangerous experiments are inaccessible, and there is little practical benefit from them. Even on basic settings, the chip provides a very high level of gaming performance.
MSI has achieved its Ryzen 7 9800X3D overclocking record using its flagship X870E MEG GODLIKE motherboard. As part of the experiment, the processor’s SMT multithreading function was disabled, and the operating voltage was set to 1.969 V – significantly higher than the standard declared operating value.
At the time of publication of this text, the HWBOT database contained only three entries about overclocking the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. In addition to the MSI overclock record of 7241.93 MHz set by Taiwanese overclocker TSAIK, there were also recorded overclocks of the chip to 7005.6 MHz and 5936.03 MHz from other enthusiasts, occupying second and third places respectively in the record table.
