Apple boasted of the record speed of users switching to iOS 18.1 – everyone wants Apple Intelligence

Apple reported a record pace of iPhone users migrating to the latest version of iOS 18.1, released this week. According to the head of the company, users are switching to iOS 18.1 twice as fast as they did with iOS 17.1 last year. The new version of the OS includes Apple Intelligence AI features, including tools for working with texts, notification summary and automatic photo gallery cleaning. These innovations are designed to help users solve everyday problems and increase their productivity.

Tim Cook’s statement came shortly after the publication of Apple’s financial report for the third quarter of 2024. According to him, the unprecedented popularity of iOS 18.1 confirms the interest of both users and developers in new AI-based features. “We’re getting great feedback from users and developers,” Cook said. Typically, Apple does not disclose data on the popularity of new versions of iOS at such an early stage, preferring to publish detailed statistics on the website for developers several months after release.

IOS 18.1 for the first time includes such Apple Intelligence features as Writing Tools – tools for working with text, Notification Summaries – a summary of notifications and Clean Up – a function that automatically cleans up the photo gallery, which probably attracted increased attention from users. By comparison, iOS 17.1 introduced updates to AirDrop, StandBy, and the Music app, as well as some bug fixes.

In addition to the successful launch of iOS 18.1, Apple has begun testing the next update – iOS 18.2, which is already available to developers. The new version will expand the capabilities of Apple Intelligence and offer features such as Image Playground, Genmoji and ChatGPT integration, which will provide even deeper device personalization and create new scenarios for its use. The release of iOS 18.2 is expected in December.
