Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, as part of the company’s financial report, spoke about the success of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the first game in the series to be released on the Game Pass subscription.
According to Nadella, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 had the largest launch in the history of the series, setting several records within the franchise, including the number of players on release day and in the first weekend.
The official Call of Duty account on social network X adds that during the debut weekend, users spent a record amount of time and number of multiplayer matches in Black Ops 6 for games in the series.
Nadella also mentioned that the day of the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 saw the largest daily increase in Game Pass subscribers in the history of the service – the last time a similar surge was provoked by Starfield.
Despite its availability on Game Pass, sales of Black Ops 6 on Steam and PlayStation in its first days were 60% higher than those of Modern Warfare (2023). However, as PC Gamer notes, this says more about last year’s game than the new one.
«Thank you to players around the world for making Black Ops 6 the biggest launch in Call of Duty history. Our goal from the beginning has been to bring this great game to as many gamers as possible, wherever they are and whatever they play on,” said Call of Duty General Manager Matt Cox.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was released on October 25 on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store, Battle.net), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, as well as Game Pass (Ultimate and PC Game Pass). The iconic Nuketown map will appear in the game on November 1 (see its trailer below).
