Windows 11 24H2 does not work well with Intel Core Ultra 200S – users complain about PC crashes and reboots

According to an Asus report published by El Chapuzas Informático, Intel Z890 motherboards may experience random crashes and reboots after installing Windows 11 with 24H2 update. The problem is presumably related to the Core Ultra 200S processors and their integrated graphics based on the Xe-LPG architecture. A conflict may arise between the “built-in” and the discrete video card. Asus offers two solutions to this problem: either disable the integrated graphics on Core Ultra 200S processors before updating the operating system, or update the motherboard BIOS to the latest version before installing Windows with this major update. However, both options can be difficult for inexperienced users or those who are not prepared to change BIOS settings.

The Spanish publication published a screenshot of an Asus message in which the company describes steps to fix the problem. It is also reported that the situation appears to affect not only boards provided for review by media and bloggers, but also boards that are already on sale or whose shipments will begin this week.

«Interestingly, information provided by Asus yesterday suggests that Intel Z890 motherboards already available in stores are also susceptible to this issue. It is noted that it affects not only Asus motherboards, but also board models [Intel Z890] from all manufacturers. At this time, it is unclear whether other board manufacturers plan to publish any notice about the need to update the BIOS or disable integrated graphics in case of problems with a system running Windows 11 24H2,” writes El Chapuzas Informático.

The VideoCardz portal interviewed several reviewers who confirmed that the problem actually occurs not only on Asus boards, but also on solutions from Gigabyte, MSI and ASRock. So, to avoid hardware conflict after installing Windows 11 with 24H2 update, it is important to first update the BIOS of your motherboards before installing the Windows update.
