Gartner has summed up the preliminary results of a study of the global IT market in 2024, and also made a forecast for 2025. The industry continues to expand despite macroeconomic challenges and the geopolitical environment.

Costs for data centers, electronic devices, enterprise-class software, IT services and telecommunications services are calculated. In 2024, total costs in these areas are estimated at $5.26 trillion. This is an increase of 7.2% compared to the previous year.

In the data center segment, costs at the end of 2024 will amount to about $318.01 billion, which is a third – 34.7% – more than last year. In the area of ​​enterprise software, revenue is expected to be about $1.09 trillion, with an increase of 11.7% year on year. Costs for IT services and telecommunications services – $1.59 trillion and $1.53 trillion, respectively, with an increase of 5.6% and 2.0%. Electronics will bring in $735.76 billion, showing an increase of 6.2% compared to 2023.

Gartner analysts call generative AI one of the main drivers of the global IT market. The implementation of such services and training of modules contributes to the development of data center infrastructure and the accompanying software ecosystem. In 2025, total IT spending is projected to rise 9.3% to $5.75 trillion.

The highest growth rates are expected in the data center area – plus 15.5% with a result of $367.17 billion in 2025. In the software segment, growth, according to Gartner, will be 14.0% – up to $1.24 trillion. IT services will bring in $1.74 trillion with an increase of 9.4%, telecommunications services – $1.60 trillion with an increase of 4.4% compared to 2024. Electronic devices will provide $805.72 billion in revenue, plus 9.5% year-on-year.
