OpenAI has begun testing the ChatGPT application for Windows, but so far only holders of paid subscriptions can work with them. A preview version of the client is available for download from the Microsoft Store.

Like the macOS version, the ChatGPT application for Windows allows you to ask questions to an artificial intelligence chatbot in a special window – it can be kept open together with other programs. You can quickly launch the application using the Alt + Space key combination. It allows you to upload photos and other files to ChatGPT, and you have access to the reasoning OpenAI o1 model. Some features are missing, however, including enhanced voice mode.

The ChatGPT application for macOS was released in June, and soon after that an unpleasant vulnerability was discovered in it: correspondence with the chatbot was saved in clear text. OpenAI has fixed this issue, and data stored locally by the application is now encrypted. For now, the ChatGPT client for Windows can only be used by subscribers of paid ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team and Edu tariff plans, but OpenAI promises to make it available to everyone this year.
