At the Paris Motor Show, the Taiwanese company ProLogium presented a promising traction lithium battery. What sets ProLogium apart from other similar products is its silicon composite anode. This element made it possible to increase both the energy density in the battery and increase its charging speed. In 5 minutes of charging, the promising battery accumulates energy for a range of 300 km, which makes it closer in convenience to refueling a car with an internal combustion engine.
According to the developer, the new battery provides an energy storage density of 321 Wh/kg. For comparison, the 53 kWh battery of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric car promises 153 Wh/kg, and the Tesla 4680 battery cell, according to experts, can store 232.5 Wh/kg.
As for the charging speed of the ProLogium “silicon” battery, in 5 minutes the battery gains capacity from 5% to 60% of its full capacity. In 8.5 minutes the battery is charged to 80%. ProLogium claims this is 80% faster than batteries already on the market. This is especially important for owners of electric vehicles, who often wonder how and where to quickly restore capacity without standing in lines at charging stations?
It’s also worth noting that the new ProLogium traction batteries have a modular design, which should make them easier to repair and recycle, potentially helping to reduce the cost of owning electric vehicles.
ProLogium also announced that it is moving from the research and development stage to commercialization of its energy solutions. ProLogium is collaborating with German automotive company FEV to launch production of battery packs in the near future. In addition, the company has an even more promising ceramic lithium battery, but that’s another story.
