The Verge and GamesIndustry.biz portals, citing internal Microsoft documentation, reported that Xbox Game Studios, an association of the platform holder’s internal game studios, will soon change its head again.
Let us recall that the former head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, was promoted to president of game content and studios in the fall of 2023, and his place was taken by Alan Hartman.
The former head of Turn 10 Studios (Forza Motorsport series) will remain in his new position for only a year – at the end of November, after more than 30 years of work at Microsoft, Hartman will leave the company.
According to Booty, Hartman joined Microsoft in 1988 to work in the CD division and has since served as head of Digital Anvil and helped found Turn 10.
Hartman’s former position will soon be taken over by Craig Duncan, the current head of the British studio Rare, known for the pirate action game Sea of Thieves and the action adventure film Everwild, which is in development.
Rare’s co-leaders will be Joe Neate and Jim Horth following Duncan’s departure to head Xbox Game Studios. According to Booty, the duo will help the studio reach new heights.
«In his new role, Craig will continue to help our studios produce quality and diverse games that can grow into successful franchises and attract more gamers,” concluded Booty.
