The Telegram company, the developer of the messenger of the same name, will appoint its representative in Kazakhstan and open an office here, RBC writes with reference to a statement by the Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan Zhaslan Madiev. He announced this at a meeting with members of the US Chamber of Commerce and representatives of American companies.
«In accordance with our legislation, Internet platforms such as Telegram, WhatsApp and TikTok are now required to have a representative in Kazakhstan. An agreement has already been reached with Telegram,” Madiev said, adding that the authorities are actively cooperating with Telegram to remove inappropriate publications and block destructive channels.
The minister also said that the Ministry of Digital Development of Kazakhstan has begun working with Meta✴ to block fraudulent schemes. Over the last quarter, the company blocked 1.2 billion fake accounts worldwide using AI, he noted.
Earlier it became known that since 2018, Telegram has been providing the authorities of most countries with information about the IP addresses and phone numbers of criminals in accordance with the privacy policy. France was not on this list, but after Durov’s arrest, the messenger began to respond to requests from the French authorities, which it had previously ignored.
