In July, the Japanese company Capcom for the first time officially confirmed plans for the next serialized part of the Resident Evil horror series, and a full announcement seems to be just around the corner.
As users of the ResetEra and Reddit forums noted, the future Resident Evil 9 (the presumed name of the project) recently had its own page on the Metacritic aggregator website.
According to information on Metacritic, Resident Evil 9 is being created for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S consoles – PC is not on the list of target platforms for the game. Estimated release dates are also not indicated.
Users emphasize that you shouldn’t completely trust the behind-the-scenes information from Metacritic – after all, the aggregator’s website has had a page for Half-Life 3 for PC for several years (although the game, it seems, is still in development).
At the same time, it was Metacritic in December 2023 that declassified Capcom’s plans to release a gold edition of the updated Resident Evil 4 right up to its release date – this happened two months before the official announcement.
Fans are hoping that the appearance of the Metacritic page is an indication of the imminent announcement of Resident Evil 9. According to insider AestheticGamer (aka Dusk Golem), the game is expected to release in late 2025 or early 2026.
The development of the new game is led by Resident Evil 7 director Koshi Nakanishi. Dusk Golem previously claimed that the project has been in production since early 2018 and will offer an open world.
