Rumors that have circulated for several years have been confirmed: the Bungie studio is indeed working on a mobile version of its online shooters Destiny, but not alone, but in collaboration with the Chinese NetEase Games.
The project is called Destiny: Rising and is a shareware role-playing shooter for iOS and Android. The announcement was accompanied by a two-minute trailer with excerpts of gameplay.
Destiny: Rising will be developed and published by NetEase Games, while Bungie’s involvement will be limited to overseeing production and making final decisions on issues requiring approval.
The events of Destiny: Rising will unfold in the period after the Dark Age, when a new generation of Lightbearers, resurrected by the mysterious Ghosts, undertakes to guarantee a bright future for humanity.
They promise a wide selection of heroes with unique skills, exotic weapons, single-player, cooperative and competitive gameplay, familiar and new modes, first- and third-person cameras, and controller support.
Bungie says the studio has been building and deepening the Destiny universe for over a decade, and is now excited to welcome mobile players to this new version from the talented team at NetEase Games.
The release dates for Destiny: Rising have not been specified, but the start of closed alpha testing is scheduled for November 1. You can sign up to volunteer through the pre-registration form on the official website of the project.
