Apple is preparing a budget Vision headset priced at about $2000, but without the EyeSight function

Apple plans to make the Vision headset more affordable by releasing a budget version for $2,000. The model will use cheaper materials and a less powerful processor, but will retain the basic functions.

Mark Gurman reports in his Power On newsletter that Apple plans to release a more affordable version of the Apple Vision headset next year. According to him, it will cost almost twice as much as Vision Pro.

Let’s remember that Apple’s Vision Pro headset was introduced earlier this year at a price of $3,500, but it seems that the company is already actively working on its successor. Some reports earlier this year indicated that Apple had paused development of the Vision Pro to focus on a cheaper option, as it became apparent that the high price of the Vision Pro was putting the product out of reach for many.

Gurman notes that the new headset will likely use a less powerful processor and cheaper materials. While the Vision Pro is equipped with an M2 chip, a more affordable model will likely use an A-series chip, such as the A18 Pro, which is comparable in performance to the M1. In terms of materials, the budget version will likely have more plastic, unlike the Vision Pro model, which is made of aluminum and glass.

Also, according to the report, the headset will most likely not receive the EyeSight feature that was introduced in the Vision Pro. This feature uses lenticular displays to transmit images of the user’s eyes to the headset’s external screen, allowing others to “see” the wearer’s eyes. While this feature was interesting, it was also quite costly due to the need to install an additional display on the outside, and will presumably be omitted in the budget variant.

Apple expects the more affordable Apple Vision headset to outsell the Apple Vision Pro. It is also reported that an Apple Vision Pro 2 model based on a faster processor is planned for release in 2026.
