According to Tequila Works on its LinkedIn page, “it is with deep regret” that the studio has decided to cancel the unannounced game in order to focus on the remaining project in development.

The change will affect a “small number” of employees—Tequila Works’ LinkedIn page states that the studio employs between 50 and 200 people (about 160, according to public sources).

«This is an incredibly difficult time and our efforts are focused on providing support and assistance to those affected,” Tequila Works posted on LinkedIn.

Tequila Works was founded in 2009. Its debut game in 2012 was the dark platformer Deadlight, and the studio subsequently made Rime (2017), The Sexy Brutale (2017) and Gylt (2019).

Tequila Works’ latest release is the adventure Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story, released in 2023. The game was published by Riot Forge, which Riot Games closed as part of the January wave of layoffs.

In less than ten months of 2024, according to Game Industry Layoffs, 13 thousand people have already lost their jobs in the gaming industry. For comparison: for the entire 2023, this figure reached 10,500 employees.
