Google will install an anti-theft system on all Android smartphones – deployment has begun

Google is rolling out a set of new features, announced back in May, to protect Android phones from theft. According to TheVerge, two of the three features, Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock, have already appeared on some smartphones. The third, Remote Lock, also appeared, but not for all users.

The most notable feature will be Theft Detection Lock, which uses artificial intelligence to lock the screen if it detects “typical theft-related movements” on the device. For example, when the phone is suddenly snatched from your hands.

Offline Device Lock will automatically lock the device’s screen if it is offline for a long time, and Remote Lock will allow owners to lock their smartphone using their phone number in cases where they cannot log into the Find My Device service using a password.

Currently, Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock are supported on any Android 10 or higher device, while Remote Lock requires Android 5. If the update is not yet available, you can try updating Google Play Services. However, we know that Google often releases new features gradually, and you just have to wait a little. Screenshots of Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock settings can be seen in Threads.
