When rumors of a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag began swirling last summer, you might have thought that the project was in the very early stages of development, but it looks like a release is already on the horizon.
According to sources from trusted insider Tom Henderson and Insider Gaming, production of the updated version of the open-world pirate action game is already relatively far along.
A gameplay video of the remake sent to the editors of Insider Gaming (not subject to publication) shows the ship’s manager, Edward Kenway, using an advanced version of the Anvil engine, on which Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was based.
According to Henderson, at least until the recent postponement of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the release of the remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, codenamed Obsidian, was supposedly planned for November 2025.
Around the same time, according to Henderson, multiplayer Invictus should be released, while mobile Jade is announced for the second quarter of 2025 – in just five years, Ubisoft allegedly plans to release 10 different games from the Assassin’s Creed series.
Citing internal Ubisoft correspondence, Henderson also stated that the postponement of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will affect the release schedule of other games in the series, so the above deadlines may end up being pushed back.
Although the updated Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has not been officially confirmed, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently said that the company is developing remakes of several old parts of the series.
