The animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”), which captivated viewers in the mid-2000s, received many game adaptations, but until recently no one tried to release a big-budget blockbuster based on the show.

According to IGN, Paramount Game Studios has announced plans to release the “biggest game” in the franchise, Avatar: The Last Airbender, an as-yet untitled AAA action RPG for PC and consoles.

Development is still at an early stage, and at the helm of the project is Saber Interactive, a multidisciplinary studio that released the off-road driving simulator Expeditions: A MudRunner Game and the action movie Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 in 2024.

The game is being created in collaboration with Avatar Studios, which was founded by the show’s creators in 2021 (image source: Nickelodeon)

The events of the action role-playing game will unfold thousands of years before the beginning of the story of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Players, in the role of a completely new Avatar for the franchise, will have to master all four elements and become the guardian of balance in the world.

They promise an atmospheric and colorful world, dynamic battles, memorable companions, challenges and difficult decisions, as well as new and familiar plot elements to fans of the franchise.

Meanwhile, Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender has been renewed for seasons two and three (image source: Netflix)

The project is being co-financed by Paramount and Saber. This is not the first collaboration between the companies – from their previous partnership, the cooperative zombie shooter World War Z was born based on the novel of the same name (and then the film).

Saber Intertactive’s AAA action title isn’t the only Avatar: The Last Airbender game on the horizon. Maximum Entertainment plans to release a multiplayer fighting game in early access in 2025.
