Google developers have begun testing the background playback feature in the YouTube TV app for Android and iOS. Now users can continue to listen to what is happening in the videos after locking the screen of their smartphone or tablet, as well as after exiting the application. A similar feature on YouTube is available as part of a paid YouTube Premium subscription.
Considering that YouTube TV has always been a paid service, one might assume that background playback is already supported in the app, but this is not the case. Judging by numerous messages from service users on social networks, the situation is now changing. This means that all YouTube TV app users on Android and iOS devices will soon be able to enable background playback while watching videos.
Judging by user comments, the mentioned feature is being rolled out gradually over the past week. More and more users are paying attention to the appearance of support for background playback, but there are also messages from those for whom this innovation is still not available. It will likely take a few more weeks before the background playing feature is available to all YouTube TV users on Android and iOS devices.
