Samsung will cut thousands of employees outside of South Korea

Many electronics manufacturers, after the end of the pandemic with its rapid growth in demand for computers, were forced to reduce staff numbers; this fate did not spare Samsung Electronics. At least for now, Bloomberg knows that outside of South Korea the company is ready to cut up to 10% of its workforce in some departments, with thousands of people laid off.

Australia, New Zealand and the countries of Southeast Asia, according to Bloomberg, will be the regions of Samsung Electronics’ presence that will be affected by the company’s staff reductions in the near future. The number of employees being laid off in each division will vary, but in some cases it will reach 10% of the workforce. There will be no layoffs in South Korea, largely due to recent escalation of contradictions with the union.

Samsung Electronics employs more than 267,800 people worldwide, of which more than half (about 147,000) live outside of South Korea. At least in Singapore, measures to reduce Samsung’s workforce will be carried out, according to Bloomberg. Company representatives explained that the cuts are a normal part of the work to optimize the organizational structure, and targets for the new round have not been set. The company recently cut staff in India and parts of Latin America, where they also reached 10% of the total workforce. The new round of cuts is likely to leave less than 10% of Samsung employees living outside South Korea unemployed. Priority will be given to retaining production-related specialists.
