Nintendo’s struggle with Nintendo Switch emulators continues: it seems that the Japanese platform holder has chalked up another victory. This time over Yuzu’s main competitor – Ryujinx.
As users noticed, overnight and without warning, the download page for the current build on the Ryujinx website was empty, and the repository on GitHub disappeared. This was not a DMCA complaint.
A representative of the official Ryujinx Discord server under the pseudonym ripinperiperi reported that gdkchan, the leading developer of the emulator, was contacted by Nintendo and made him an offer that was impossible to refuse.
The agreement included gdkchan ceasing further work on Ryujinx and dissolving the organization. It is unknown whether gdkchan made a deal with Nintendo, but what happened with the emulator speaks for itself.
Although gdkchan has almost certainly given up on Ryujinx forever, other enthusiasts are ready to continue his work, as was the case with Yuzu at one time. A copy of the remote emulator repository has already appeared on GitHub.
Let us remind you that as a result of Nintendo’s litigation with the developers, the Yuzu emulator was closed, and its authors agreed to pay the platform holder $2.4 million in damages.
Copies of Yuzu were not long in coming. Despite Nintendo’s best efforts, the Suyu emulator is still available for download, although the most current stable build was released more than six months ago.
