AMD has announced the EPYC Embedded 8004 (Siena) processors for embedded systems with compute-intensive workloads. The chips are suitable for networking equipment, routers, security devices, enterprise and cloud warm/cold storage and industrial peripheral products.
The processors are based on an optimized Zen 4 architecture – Zen 4c, which is characterized by increased energy efficiency. The EPYC Embedded 8004 family includes chips with 12, 16, 24, 32, 48 and 64 cores that support multi-threading technology. TDP varies from 100 to 200 W.
The base frequency of the new products varies from 2.3 to 2.65 GHz, and the maximum frequency is 3.0 or 3.1 GHz. The processors support six channels of DDR5-4800 memory, the maximum capacity of which can be 1152 GB in a 12×96 GB configuration. 96 PCIe 5.0 lanes are available.
Features include the presence of a DMA engine, NTB, the ability to reset DRAM to an NVMe drive to protect data in the event of a power loss, support for two SPI ROMs (for BIOS and secure bootloader), support for Yocto Linux, as well as the presence of a cryptographic processor attestation mechanism, which Prevents unauthorized CPU replacement.
New chips have a configurable cTDP (configurable TDP). For the younger version of the EPYC Embedded 8C24P with 12 cores, the standard value of 100 W can be reduced to 70 W, while for the older version of the EPYC Embedded 8534P with 64 cores, the standard value of 200 W can be adjusted in the range from 155 to 225 W.
EPYC Embedded 8004 processors are made in a compact SP6 form factor, which is 19% smaller compared to EPYC Embedded 9004. The life cycle of the chips is seven years.
