Tekken fighting game producer Katsuhiro Harada had long hoped to add Colonel Sanders, the founder and face of the fast food chain KFC, to the game, but this dream was not destined to come true.
In a recent interview with The Gamer, Harada, along with game designer Michael Murray, discussed how the developer tried to get permission to use Colonel Sanders.
According to Harada, he had wanted to add Colonel Sanders to Tekken for a long time, and even went to the Japanese head office of KFC to negotiate on this issue, but the visit turned out to be extremely short-lived.
Murray added that KFC management was “not very open to the idea” of the Colonel appearing in Tekken. Harada was given a “bad look”, the idea was quickly rejected, and at that point the dream was dead.
«Maybe it was a problem for them that the colonel would have to fight with someone. Be that as it may, this shows the difficulties of this type of negotiation,” Murray concluded.
For the same reason, you shouldn’t expect to see a fan-popular arena based on Waffle House restaurants in Tekken 8. Harada reminded, “We are not able to do this on our own.”
