Microsoft released an optional update for the Windows 11 operating system last week, bringing some new features to the Start menu, taskbar, and lock screen. Unfortunately, for some users this update resulted in problems with their PC.
As reported by Windows Latest, after installing the KB5043145 update for Windows 11, some users were unable to restart their computer because this operation was accompanied by a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), and in less rare cases, a Green Screen of Death (GSOD). There have also been occasional problems with the BitLocker recovery feature.
After installing this update, users began to complain about Windows loading endlessly with the OS recovery function automatically launching when trying to repair or reset the update. “After installing KB5043145 and rebooting, my laptop was stuck on the laptop manufacturer logo screen with an endlessly rotating boot circle (infinite = 20 minutes). I had to press and hold the power button on the laptop before Windows 11 started the recovery function. Fortunately, it worked. However, the update was now not installed. My Windows 11 has all the latest updates (version 23H2, 22631.4169) and all the latest drivers,” wrote one user.
Microsoft said it is aware of this issue. According to the company, all PCs running Windows 11 23H2 and Windows 11 22H2 operating systems may be affected. Microsoft has now rolled back the release of the update.
Speaking to Windows Latest, a Microsoft support representative confirmed that they are aware of the issue with this update. Affected machines launch the automatic OS recovery function after the user encounters BSOD and GSOD several times while booting the PC. You may also need a BitLocker password, if you have one, to restore functionality.
In addition to this, some users are complaining about mice and keyboards not working after installing KB5043145 because the USB port they are connected to is not responding. For other users, the WLAN connection disappeared after installing the update. Some also note that the Windows Subsystem for Linux layer has stopped working.
Microsoft is investigating all complaints and the consequences of installing update KB5043145. The company encourages those encountering problems to contact its support through the Windows Feedback Center.
It is not necessary to install the KB5043145 update (if it is not already installed). This is an optional update for Windows Insiders through the Release Preview channel. Therefore, you can simply refuse to install this update until the problem with it is resolved and until the update appears in the general download channel in Windows Update.
Если обновление KB5043145 уже установлено, и с ним наблюдаются проблемы, то его можно удалить через функцию Windows Recovery в меню Troubleshoot > Advanced Options. After uninstallation, Windows should be able to restart correctly. If after installing the update no problems are observed, it is still recommended to remove it. This can be done through the Windows Update History.
