Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, in a recent Spawncast podcast, shared insider information about the plans of the Dutch studio Guerrilla Games for a series of post-apocalyptic action films Horizon.
It is officially known that Guerrilla Games is working on a multiplayer spin-off from the main series, and last spring the studio confirmed its intention to continue the story of Horizon Forbidden West.
According to Schreier, the online Horizon is one of the few Sony game services that was not canceled (like the multiplayer The Last of Us) or failed at release (like Concord), and it is on this that Guerrilla is now betting.
«It looks like their next product will be Horizon Online rather than a third single player game. So [the Horizon Forbidden West sequel] may still be very far from release,” Schreier said.
Schreier added that a lot of Guerrilla employees are working on multiplayer Horizon, but he doubts the feasibility of releasing this project: “I’m not sure how many people want such a game.”
Schreier has a lot of questions about Sony’s strategy and the online Horizon in particular: for example, whether the project will be canceled if the upcoming remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn and Lego Horizon Adventures suddenly fail in sales.
The as-yet untitled multiplayer Horizon will feature a new character gallery, stylized graphics, and the ability to explore the world with friends. According to rumors, the game is being created on the Decima engine for PC and PS5.
