Synergy Research Group has published the results of an analysis of the global cloud ecosystem in the first half of 2024. Total costs in the services and infrastructure segments reached $427 billion, an increase of approximately 23% compared to the first half of 2023.
It is noted that in the IaaS, PaaS and SaaS segments, cost growth averaged 21% year on year. At the same time, in the direction of corporate SaaS services the increase was slightly less than 20%.
Costs for public and private cloud data centers during January–June 2024 increased by 30% compared to the same period in 2023. Hyperscalers continue to actively develop their infrastructure: their capacity increased by 24% year-on-year, and the total volume of capacity being prepared for commissioning jumped by 47%.
In the field of SaaS and cloud infrastructure services, the leaders are Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Salesforce. In the segment of equipment and software for data centers, a significant market share is occupied by ODM manufacturers, whose services are used by hyperscalers. Dell, Microsoft, Supermicro and HPE are also named as major players in this market. It is noted that NVIDIA, which supplies solutions for AI platforms, including directly to hyperscalers, is quickly strengthening its position.
From a geographic point of view, the undisputed leader is the United States, which in the first half of 2024 accounted for 44% of all revenue from cloud services, 53% of hyperscaler capacity and 47% of the hardware and software market for cloud data centers. Chinese players account for 8% of all revenue from cloud services and 16% of hyperscaler capacity.
