An air show of 7,598 drones entered the Guinness Book of Records

The capabilities of drone swarm behavior are best demonstrated in large-scale air shows, when hundreds and thousands of copters begin to circle in the air in concert. Chinese companies have achieved the highest skill in this. The Guinness Book of World Records has set a new record of flying 7,598 drones simultaneously, doubling the previous achievement.

Just like four years ago, when 3,191 drones took off into the air at the same time, a new record was set by the same Chinese company – Shenzhen Damoda Intelligent Control Technology. The 2020 show was held in Zhuhai, China. The performance in September 2024 was watched live by tens of thousands of people.

According to sources, the performance schedule was much stricter than in 2020, but thanks to the development of technology, there were no disruptions. This entire huge fleet of drones was controlled from one single laptop. The most difficult part of preparing for the performance may have been the need to distribute more than 7.5 thousand drones into launch boxes, 12 in each.

One of the conditions for fixing the record was holding the figure motionless in the air for at least 20 seconds. The image of a tiger on a rock against the backdrop of a meteor shower lasted a record 37 seconds. Excerpts from the show can be seen in the video above. Immediately after the drones descended, the sky lit up with the usual fireworks. In the future, such icing on the cake could be artificial meteor showers, which Japanese developers have been spotted preparing. But that’s another story.
