The announcement of a remaster of the post-apocalyptic open-world action game Horizon Zero Dawn from Guerrilla Games, which was announced during the September State of Play broadcast, has already backfired on the original game.

Let us remind you that Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is an updated version of Horizon Zero Dawn for PC and PS5 worth $50, to which owners of the original game on PC and PS4 can upgrade for money ($10).

The digital edition of the game on PC was and is being sold for the same $50, and on PS4 the price dropped to $20 back in June 2018. Thus, for buyers of Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 over the past six years, the remaster will cost only $30.

Sony also realized this: as noted in The Sun newspaper, shortly after the State of Play, the price of Horizon Zero Dawn in the American PS Store without explanation increased from $20 to $40 – the change can be tracked through the PS Prices portal.

In other words, for new buyers of the digital version of Horizon Zero Dawn for PS4, the upcoming remaster will cost the same $50 for which it will be sold on PS5. Retail copies, however, were not affected by the price increase.

The re-release of Horizon Zero Dawn will feature improvements to animation, lighting, textures, models and rendering, re-recorded dialogue, additional accessibility settings and compatibility with saves from the original game.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will be released on October 31 on PC (Steam, EGS) and PS5. The PC version claims support for ultra-wide monitors, Nvidia DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3.1 and PlayStation overlay. The game will also require a PSN account to be linked.
