Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses learned to “remember” things for the user and mastered simultaneous translation

Meta✴ has put a lot of effort into making its smart glasses collaboration with Ray-Ban one of the best examples of artificial intelligence devices available today. The next software update package will help the company consolidate its success. In addition, a special version of glasses with translucent frames has been announced – they will be released in limited edition.

At the Meta✴ Connect conference, a number of new smart glasses features were presented. The Reminders feature, in particular, allows the device to take pictures of what the owner is looking at and show them later on the smartphone with notifications. There is now support for scanning QR codes and the ability to call phone numbers that the user is looking at. Previously, the glasses had the ability to translate text on images – now the company is working on a simultaneous translation function with support for English, French, Italian and Spanish.

In practice, the updated Ray-Ban Meta✴ software actually makes the device more functional, The Verge confirms. Back in July, the built-in AI periodically experienced difficulties, but now it works more quickly – it correctly recognizes voice commands and objects caught on camera. There is still no function for setting a timer, but Meta✴ promises to add it in the foreseeable future. The purpose of this update, the company said, is to make interaction with the device more natural. Real-time video processing will appear this year, that is, AI will learn to understand what is happening around.

In addition to software updates, Meta✴, with the support of EssilorLuxottica, also announced some “hardware” innovations. Buyers now have access to “chameleon lenses”, as well as a limited edition of glasses (7,500 units) in translucent frames that expose all the electronics.
