Representatives of the investment company Bain believe that the market for software and hardware related to artificial intelligence systems is growing on average by 40–55% annually, and if last year the revenue of its participants did not exceed $185 billion, then by 2027 it will increase to $780 or $990 billion, very close to the $1 trillion mark.
Not only corporate market participants, but also government agencies will show interest in the development of artificial intelligence systems. The demand for semiconductor components at the stage of rapid growth will provoke their shortage, even the PC and smartphone segments will be affected. Demand for custom chips could grow by 30% by 2026, and manufacturers must be prepared for this.
If now it is enough to spend $1 to $4 billion to equip a large data processing center, then in five years these needs will require from $10 to $25 billion, according to experts. The power consumption of such a data center can increase from 50 or 200 megawatts to more than 1 gigawatt. These changes will obviously affect the energy sector and manufacturers of cooling systems.
It is noteworthy that not only large language models will grow and scale, but also small ones, since the authorities of individual countries and companies in many cases will be concerned about limiting the access of automated processing tools to sensitive data. Building a sovereign AI infrastructure will take years and billions of dollars in government subsidies.
