Following the cancellation of the cooperative action movie Project T based on Dead by Daylight and the closure of the Midwinter Entertainment studio that developed it, Behavior Interactive decided to buy another team.
Behavior Interactive announced on its official microblog that it has acquired Canadian Red Hook Studios. The studio, which has 29 employees, is known for the dark role-playing games Darkest Dungeon and Darkest Dungeon II.
«We’ve long admired and enjoyed the Darkest Dungeon series (and even sometimes lost sleep over it), so it’s a pleasure to welcome Red Hook to Behavior as a completely independent entity,” the announcement reads.
Under the banner of Behavior, the creators of Darkest Dungeon will continue to work as a completely autonomous division, and the new owner is committed to helping the team do what it does best: test the psyche of users for strength.
Red Hook co-founders Chris Bourassa and Tyler Sigman noted in a press release that they met like-minded people on the Behavior team: “Together we are stronger than apart.”
«Behavior’s support will help us realize our vision for the future of Red Hook and focus on making Darkest Dungeon a true dark fantasy giant,” Bourassa said.
The latest release from Red Hook remains Darkest Dungeon II – the game was released on PC (Steam, EGS), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, S and Nintendo Switch. Total sales of the sequel, together with the first part, are estimated at 7 million copies.
