Since their inception, robots have taken on some of the most dangerous and difficult work, replacing humans in dangerous environments. Boston Dynamics’ Spot robot is no exception, although its mechanics are more like a dog. Recently, he gained the ability to unlock Assa Abloy electronic locks by communicating with them via Bluetooth.
This function is very useful in those robot use scenarios that involve inspecting premises where access is blocked by automatic doors with electronic locks. The robot will be able to send a signal to electronic locks, and they will start the actuators that unlock the doors.
The idea has been discussed by the developers for at least three years, but only now has it come close to its implementation. Now, when moving between rooms equipped with automatic door drives with electronic locks, the robot will be able to move from one compartment to another without the need for manual control or monitoring by operators.
